01 · Reading the timeline

Two indicators, and a missing year.

Rows come from the Vancouver Police all-years extract of founded incidents, counted with the all-offence method. 2026 is year-to-date, through 2026-09-25.

2022 is absent from the downloaded file and is left blank. Assault, robbery, and other theft are not separated here.

02 · Scope

2 local indicators.

These two indicators are the cuts the extract supports. They are not a complete crime total.

Auto Theft
Theft of a vehicle.
Break and Enter
Commercial break and enter plus residential and other break and enter.

Hate-crime and money-laundering sources have not been added for Vancouver. Their views explain that coverage gap. The indicators above cannot stand in for either subject.

03 · Place & population

Local areas, with two names that do not join.

The boundary file calls the centre Downtown. The crime rows call it Central Business District, and the map uses that crime name. Musqueam and Stanley Park have crime rows and no polygon in the boundary file, so they stay in the list.

0.00% of the full-year indicator records were not placed in an area (0 reports). They remain in the city total.

Citywide rates use Statistics Canada estimates for the City of Vancouver. Adapted from Statistics Canada, Table 17-10-0155-01, Population estimates, July 1, by census subdivision, 2021 boundaries, July 1, 2016 to 2025 (released 2026-01-14). This does not constitute an endorsement by Statistics Canada of this product. Local-area rates are not shown. The department says the extract is not comparable with Statistics Canada.

About this data

How to read these figures

What does “crime” mean for Vancouver?
Crime by local area means the indicators Vancouver Police Department publishes for Vancouver (2016–2025). They are reported incident or offence counts, not arrests, charges, or a safety score. The same heading in another city is not the same offence.
Where do the numbers come from?
Police figures come from Vancouver Police Department. Area boundaries come from City of Vancouver · local-area boundaries. Rates, when a denominator exists, use Statistics Canada · population estimates and are shown per 10,000 residents. A missing year, indicator, or boundary stays missing.
How often is this updated?
The site is updated periodically, with no fixed public schedule and no live feed. Comparable charts use full years. A year-to-date control, when the page has one, labels the partial year separately.
What does this not show?
Drug offences and overdose deaths are separate series, not part of these local areas. There is no single cross-city crime index. Counting rules and source links are on the Vancouver about page.

This is a general overview of recorded incidents, not a measure of a particular location's safety. VPD, the Vancouver Police Board and City of Vancouver disclaim liability for reliance. Classifications can change; these all-offence counts are not comparable with Statistics Canada's most-serious-offence series. No separate written redistribution permission was available at review.
