Know what you’re looking at.
LVMPD’s public NIBRS layer has 2025 and a partial 2026, for the department’s jurisdiction rather than the City of Las Vegas alone.
01 · Reading the timeline
One full year, for a jurisdiction larger than the city.
On the collection date the LVMPD reported-NIBRS layer contained 2025 and 2026. 2026 is year-to-date, through 2026-09-27. Years before 2025 are absent and are not filled from another source.
The department says this portal is not guaranteed complete and is not intended as a statistical compilation. The figures here are still only that public layer.
02 · Scope
4 local indicators.
These are selected LVMPD categories from a short extract, not a ten-year series and not all recorded crime.
- Assault
- Aggravated assault and simple assault (NIBRS 13A and 13B).
- Auto Theft
- Motor vehicle theft (NIBRS 240).
- Burglary
- Burglary (NIBRS 220).
- Robbery
- Robbery (NIBRS 120).
Hate-crime and money-laundering sources have not been added for Las Vegas. Their views explain that coverage gap. The indicators above cannot stand in for either subject.
03 · Place & population
Area commands, not the city limit.
Counts cover the LVMPD jurisdiction: the City of Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County. Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Boulder City are separate police departments and are not included. The map draws 12 LVMPD area commands. Streets are not packaged for this city yet.
0.29% of the full-year indicator records were not placed in an area (133 reports). They remain in the city total.
There is no Census place for that jurisdiction, so the City of Las Vegas population is not used. The 2025 rate uses 2020 Census block-group population inside these area commands. Convention Center and Airport have little housing, so their rates are not residential comparisons. Detention Services Division has reports and no residential population, so it has no rate.
04 · Source records
Follow the numbers.
Police data: Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Population: U.S. Census Bureau, a United States government work. This page does not invent the missing earlier years or the other cities’ police departments.
About this data
How to read these figures
- What does “crime” mean for Las Vegas?
- Crime by area command means the indicators Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department publishes for Las Vegas (2025). They are reported incident or offence counts, not arrests, charges, or a safety score. The same heading in another city is not the same offence.
- Where do the numbers come from?
- Police figures come from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Area boundaries come from LVMPD · area commands. Rates, when a denominator exists, use U.S. Census Bureau · 2020 population inside LVMPD area commands and are shown per 10,000 residents. A missing year, indicator, or boundary stays missing.
- How often is this updated?
- The site is updated periodically, with no fixed public schedule and no live feed. Comparable charts use full years. A year-to-date control, when the page has one, labels the partial year separately.
- What does this not show?
- Drug offences and overdose deaths are separate series, not part of these area commands. There is no single cross-city crime index. Counting rules and source links are on the Las Vegas about page.
