How the series is built

Counts come from LVMPD reported NIBRS crimes, grouped by reported year, offense code, and area command. On the collection date the layer contained 2025 and 2026. Assault is NIBRS 13A and 13B. Auto theft, burglary, and robbery use 240, 220, and 120. 2026 is year-to-date.

This is the LVMPD jurisdiction: the City of Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County. Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Boulder City are separate departments and are not in these totals. Other larceny stays out.

Population

There is no Census place that matches the LVMPD jurisdiction, so the City of Las Vegas population is not the denominator. The 2025 rate uses 2020 Census block-group population whose internal point falls inside an LVMPD area command. Convention Center and Airport contain little housing, so their rates are not residential comparisons. Detention Services Division has reports and no residential population, so it has no rate.

0.3% of these indicator reports could not be placed in a local area and stay in the city totals only.

Reading the data

Three numbers that need context

!
Auto theft changes need a recorded prior-year baseline. Only 2025 is a complete year in this extract. A full-year change cannot be calculated, and 2026 year-to-date is shown separately.
×
Larceny in this layer has no dollar floor, so theft over stays out. The department says the portal is not a complete statistical series.
i
Counts by default, rates one toggle away. This is not a ten-year series. Years before 2025 were not in the layer on the collection date and are not filled from another source.

About this data

How to read these figures

What does “crime” mean for Las Vegas?
Crime by area command means the indicators Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department publishes for Las Vegas (2025). They are reported incident or offence counts, not arrests, charges, or a safety score. The same heading in another city is not the same offence.
Where do the numbers come from?
Police figures come from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Area boundaries come from LVMPD · area commands. Rates, when a denominator exists, use U.S. Census Bureau · 2020 population inside LVMPD area commands and are shown per 10,000 residents. A missing year, indicator, or boundary stays missing.
How often is this updated?
The site is updated periodically, with no fixed public schedule and no live feed. Comparable charts use full years. A year-to-date control, when the page has one, labels the partial year separately.
What does this not show?
Drug offences and overdose deaths are separate series, not part of these area commands. There is no single cross-city crime index. Counting rules and source links are on the Las Vegas about page.
