How the series is built

Counts come from the Calgary Police community crime sheet, which starts in January 2020. Break and enter sums commercial, dwelling, and other premises. Robbery sums street and commercial robbery. 2026 is complete only through the last month in the workbook.

Domestic assault, disorder calls, and theft from a vehicle stay out. Earlier years are not in this workbook and are not filled from a retired file that used a different method.

Population

Citywide rates use Statistics Canada estimates for Calgary. Adapted from Statistics Canada, Table 17-10-0155-01, Population estimates, July 1, by census subdivision, 2021 boundaries, July 1, 2020 to 2025 (released 2026-01-14). This does not constitute an endorsement by Statistics Canada of this product. Community boundaries come from Open Calgary. Three reporting areas have no matching polygon and stay in the list. Community rates are not shown.

0.0% of these indicator reports could not be placed in a local area and stay in the city totals only.

Three numbers that need context

!
Auto theft fell 4% in 2025 after peaking in 2022. This is the change in recorded theft of a vehicle, not a prediction of future risk.
×
Assault here is non-domestic assault. Theft from a vehicle is not treated as theft over. Disorder calls are excluded.
i
Counts by default, rates one toggle away. Counts are the most serious violation per incident in the community crime sheet. 2026 runs through the last month in the workbook.

About this data

How to read these figures

What does “crime” mean for Calgary?
Crime by community means the indicators Calgary Police Service publishes for Calgary (2020–2025). They are reported incident or offence counts, not arrests, charges, or a safety score. The same heading in another city is not the same offence.
Where do the numbers come from?
Police figures come from Calgary Police Service. Area boundaries come from City of Calgary · community boundaries. Rates, when a denominator exists, use Statistics Canada · population estimates and are shown per 10,000 residents. A missing year, indicator, or boundary stays missing.
How often is this updated?
The site is updated periodically, with no fixed public schedule and no live feed. Comparable charts use full years. A year-to-date control, when the page has one, labels the partial year separately.
What does this not show?
Drug offences and overdose deaths are separate series, not part of these communities. There is no single cross-city crime index. Counting rules and source links are on the Calgary about page.
