01 · Reading the timeline

Three indicators, and not the official series.

Each row is one selected incident from Actes criminels. 2026 is year-to-date, through 2026-09-29. Assault and theft over are not in the file.

Auto theft is vol de véhicule à moteur. Break and enter is introduction. Robbery is vols qualifiés. Theft from a vehicle, mischief, and offences causing death stay out.

02 · Scope

3 local indicators.

These labels follow the public extract. They are not Toronto’s definitions, and the SPVM says this file is not its official statistics.

Auto Theft
Vol de véhicule à moteur.
Break and Enter
Introduction. The file does not split dwelling and commercial.
Robbery
Vols qualifiés.

Hate-crime and money-laundering sources have not been added for Montreal. Their views explain that coverage gap. The indicators above cannot stand in for either subject.

03 · Place & population

Neighbourhood stations on the island.

Counts are grouped by neighbourhood police station. 34 stations have rows. The boundary file, reprojected from MTM zone 8, draws 28 of them. Six stations stay in the list because the boundary file has no polygon for them.

0.00% of the full-year indicator records were not placed in an area (4 reports). They remain in the city total.

Citywide rates use Statistics Canada estimates for the census division of Montréal, which is the Island of Montreal, not the City of Montreal alone. Adapted from Statistics Canada, Table 17-10-0152-01, Population estimates, July 1, by census division, 2021 boundaries, July 1, 2016 to 2025 (released 2026-01-14). This does not constitute an endorsement by Statistics Canada of this product. Station rates are not shown.

04 · Source records

About this data

How to read these figures

What does “crime” mean for Montreal?
Crime by neighbourhood station means the indicators Service de police de la Ville de Montréal publishes for Montreal (2016–2025). They are reported incident or offence counts, not arrests, charges, or a safety score. The same heading in another city is not the same offence.
Where do the numbers come from?
Police figures come from Service de police de la Ville de Montréal. Area boundaries come from Ville de Montréal · neighbourhood police stations. Rates, when a denominator exists, use Statistics Canada · census division population and are shown per 10,000 residents. A missing year, indicator, or boundary stays missing.
How often is this updated?
The site is updated periodically, with no fixed public schedule and no live feed. Comparable charts use full years. A year-to-date control, when the page has one, labels the partial year separately.
What does this not show?
Drug offences and overdose deaths are separate series, not part of these neighbourhood stations. There is no single cross-city crime index. Counting rules and source links are on the Montreal about page.
